Family and Consumer Sciences courses provide opportunities to demonstrate knowledge, skills and attitudes that are essential in order for students to develop an understanding of:
 
  • Ethical interaction between family members and between family and society.
  • Critical and creative thinking on questions of family living.
  • Effective management of family resources.
  • Optimal physical, social, emotional, and intellectual and moral development of family members across the life span.
  • Effectively balance the demands of  work and family.

Early Childhood Completer Program

Course Description
Child Development 1, 2, and 3   Course of study designed to help students understand growth and development of children.  Each sequential level develops a greater understanding of the needs of children for optimal growth and development.  Careers involved with children are explored.
Applied Nutrition
1, 2 
Explore the world of food as eating habits are related to health, careers and family heritage. These courses help to understand the basics of nutrition and apply to daily life. Relationship of diet to
disease is examined as a variety of equipment and technology are used to prepare and serve meals. 
Sports Nutrition Designed for the student athlete, or anyone concerned with physical fitness, this course enables the student to assess the nutritional adequacy of your diet and make the adjustments that help to reach athletic goals.
Nutrition Science Designed for the student who would like to learn the scientific principles of nutrition and earn a science or advanced technology credit.  Helps to develop a practical understanding of nutrition and its relationship to health and disease through the application of  biological and chemical concepts and skills in laboratory setting.
Decisions for Responsible Parenthood Parenting may be the most important job a person has and this class explores the rewards and responsibilities of successful parenting. Through the study of children's needs parenting roles are examined.
Independent and Family Living Course focuses on developing skills and knowledge needed to juggle multiple roles of employee, spouse, parent, child and others that you may assume. Through the use of decision making skills students are encouraged to manage time, money and energy as they develop a plan to reach goals now and in future.
Teen Parent Program  Developed for the teen parent, this course helps to examine issues and problems facing young parents. Parenting styles and effects of parenting on the child's development is related.  Positive parenting attitudes and skills are explored as students learn skills and knowledge needed to reach personal, family and career goals
Fashion Merchandising Developed to enable students to examine the world of dress selection and design, this course looks at the economic, historical and cultural aspects associated with clothing.
