Advancement Via Individual Determination
(AVID) is a college-prep program for students who maybe traditionally in the
academic middle (earning mostly Cs) and are determined to continue their
education at the college of their choice. AVID is designed to help students
remain competitive while in high school by teaching critical college-readiness
and college-preparedness skills such as organization, self-advocacy/leadership
techniques, effective studying, using calendars/agendas, goal setting, and
techniques for higher-order thinking. In addition, AVID helps increase levels
of career awareness. Enrollment in the AVID Program is by teacher
recommendation after completing a scheduled interview.
